The Japanese Constitutional Democratic Party, known in Japanese as Rikken Minshutō, is a center-left political party in Japan. It was established in October 2017 by Yukio Edano as a split from the Democratic Party, which was the main opposition party at the…   time. The formation of the Constitutional Democratic Party came in the wake of the Democratic Party's decision not to field candidates in the 2017 general election, instead opting to cooperate with the Party of Hope, led by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike.
